In one of his final official acts in office, President Karl J. Robinhood announced the awarding of the Presidential Medal of Freedom with distinction to five individuals, recognizing what he described as “immense and lasting contributions to the nation.”

The announcement issued from the Executive Office of the President marks the ending of Robinhood’s broader initiative to honor individuals during his presidency. According to the statement, the recipients were selected regardless of political affiliation.

“This medal is an honor for longstanding and/or immense contribution to the nation, not a political token,”

Robinhood said in the statement. “No matter my political relation to you now or then, if you’ve contributed significantly to the nation, you are deserving of this award.”

Among the five honorees is White House Chief of Staff Will T. Pearson, whom the president praised extensively. Robinhood credited Pearson with playing a key role in maintaining stability, integrity, and professionalism within the administration.

Pearson was later nominated as transition manager for the Robinhood-O’Connell administration change. Robinhood additionally suggested he be nominated for the White House Chief of Staff role in the upcoming administration. President Elect O’Connell’s inauguration is planned to take place at noon eastern time.

“If in hindsight I could have him as my Vice President, I would have,” Robinhood stated, underscoring Pearson’s importance to his presidency.

The president also recognized the contributions of First Lady Amy K. Robinhood, who previously served as the Ad Press Secretary before her passing. He noted her role, alongside Pearson, in ensuring that the administration upheld the prestige and effective representation of the executive office.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor in the United States, awarded to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to national interests, security, culture, or other significant public or private endeavors.
